In addition to its natural beauty, the goal of the Ranch is to promote and preserve hunting habitat for upland game and waterfowl, including an annual program for introducing new pheasant into the native coveys and providing them with shelter and protection from their predators. The Founders are also actively and dramatically increasing the scope and quality of the fishery on the Ranch. All agricultural programs, together with hunting and fishing, are carefully coordinated to ensure that a quality habitat and game balance are achieved and that proper harvests are taken each year by the Owners and their guests.
Location
The Ranch is located on the south bank of the Sun River, only two miles west of the historical town of Fort Shaw. The international airport of Great Falls is located 25 miles east of the ranch and offers service from several major airlines. Great Falls’ population of 55,000 makes it the second largest city in Montana, offering a variety of services, businesses, shopping opportunities, and fine restaurants. Combining the setting and amenities of the Ranch with the proximity and easy access from Great Falls to the rest of the US and Canada, creates an ideal location to live your dreams in the great west while remaining only 25 minutes from a metropolitan area. The area surrounding the Ranch is referred to as "Charlie Russell Country" after Charles M. Russell, one of the best-known western artists. The museum in Great Falls bears his name, and it displays several examples of his artwork, using such local features as Square Butte, Crown Butte and Shaw Butte as backdrops. The area is also surrounded by impressive wilderness areas that will appeal to any hunter. Located 15 miles southeast of the Freezout Lake Wildlife Management area and 30 miles north of the Missouri River, SRS is ideal for duck hunters and avid trout fishermen. Located to the West, big game hunters will relish the opportunities provided by the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Clark National Forest.
